The Youth Division teaches the sport of Ultimate to boys and girls ages 8 to 18. The main programs we currently offer are an annual summer day camp and a winter scrimmage series for high school and middle school clubs. Other programs that we offer, or that we have under development, are: hat tournaments, leagues, and clinics.
Our youth summer camps are the perfect setting for boys and girls ages 8 to 14 to learn the fundamentals of Ultimate in a fun, interactive environment. The schedule for Youth Summer Camp 2010 is:
For more information or to register online, please consult the Youth Summer Camp 2010 main pages.
Although our summer camp is our signature Youth Division event for the year, we have other offerings, too. Kids who already play with a high school club, or who otherwise would not participate in the summer camp should consider the following:

To receive advanced notifications of Youth Division events or to partcipate in discussions about our various initiatives, please join our YOUTH mailing list. This list is intended as THE main communication channel for Youth Ultimate activities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Youth Ultimate players in high school or middle school, parents, and coaches are all encouraged to join this list to share information about playing and learning opportunities. This list is a rebranded version of the "BAYU" list, so if you are already a member of the BAYU list, you do not have to do anything else to receive official announcements from the Youth Division.
NOTE: We do NOT yet have a presence on Facebook, but we are looking into developing one very soon.
Wondering if Ultimate is right for you or your child? Ultimate, also known as "ultimate frisbee," combines the most exciting elements of several other sports and thrills all participants in its own unique way. It lets you pass and pivot like a point guard in basketball, flow up and down the field like a striker in soccer, and reach for the winning score like a wide receiver in football.
Where Ultimate differs most from other sports is its concept of Spirit Of The Game, which bonds all players and serves as the overall guiding principle. At Bay Area Disc Association, we make sure that all events are Spirit-friendly by letting everyone know that competitive play is highly encouraged, but never at the expense of having fun or enjoying the sport.
Ultimate is easy to learn, but hard to perfect, so it's a great sport to learn as an introduction to team sports, or as a new and interesting outlet for kids who already partcipate in athletics. Even if you've never thrown a disc before, you can learn to play Ultimate. You can expect a lot of running and some sprinting, so if you're a high energy kid who gets bored easily, Ultimate very well could be your next favorite thing to do!
The Ultimate in 10 Simple Rules article spells out in more detail how this sport is played. Please view this video posted by the Ultimate Players Association (UPA) to get a better sense of the possibilities if you or a youth in your family decides to give this sport a try.
The Youth Division is one of our areas of greatest focus for future development of the sport at Bay Area Disc Association. We recognize the growing popularity of the sport of Ultimate in the Bay Area, as evidenced by the many high school clubs (online directory in development) that have formed in the last 10 years, and we see ourselves as the infrastructure to sustain this growth. We are staffed by trained coaches and summer camp counselors, current high school and college students, adult volunteers, and miscellaneous support personnel. Almost everyone in the Youth Division is still an active player in our various leagues.
With all assets operating as a unified team, the Youth Division tackles the key challenges that would otherwise stand in the way of further growth of the sport. Some of the initiatives we are working on right now for everyone in the greater Bay Area are:
